About Program [-]

The Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program is a private, nonprofit program comitted to provide safe, affordable boating for all Merrimack Valley residents.  Spearheaded by Mayor Larry LeFebre, and prominent businessmen including Abe Bashara, Bob Nazarian, Gene O'Neil, Mike Morris, and Dick Barney, the Boating Program started in 1978 and was incorporated in 1979.   With six boats and a temporary trailer, the program taugh about 100 kids to sail that summer from a beautiful spot along the Merrimack River donated by former State Representative Thomas Lane.  Since then, the Boating Program has grown to become a cherished institution in the City of Lawrence.
